“It’s not easy being green” - Kermit the Frog

Well, actually it is. It only takes small steps to make our environment healthier for both us and the planet. Eric and Michelle are passionate about being good stewards of our beautiful island. While we are not green certified we've worked our way through our daily tasks and determined how to best be our own brand of 'Green.' To make sure that conservation doesn't take a vacation when you do, here are some steps we've taken:

TURN THEM OFF

We’ve switched nearly all of our lights bulbs to efficient CFL or LED bulbs. We ask guest to do their part by turning off lights, air conditioning units and fireplaces when leaving their room.

BATHROOM
AMENITIES

We provide luxury bathroom amenities from Gilchrist & Soames. Our Sprout Out® Collection features the Gilchrist & Soames Naturally Kind™ Formulations combined with certified organic extracts of rooibos, cardamom seed, yarrow and ginseng to gently care for the skin and hair. The green citrus and herbal fragrance perfectly captures the scent of a leisurely stroll through an English garden. Indulge and delight in products that are good for you and good for the environment. Naturally Kind™ Formulation: The Sprout Out Collection features Gilchrist & Soames’ Naturally Kind™ Formulations, which contain no sulfates (SLS/SLES), parabens, phthalates, petrol-derived ingredients, mineral oil, urea, DEA, TEA, DMDM hydantoin or propylene glycol. They do contain food-grade, naturally derived USP glycerin, natural conditioning agents from honey and the brassica plant; and soybean and cottonseed oil, instead of petrochemicals.

Gilchrist & Soames is committed to cruelty-free development and vow to never test our products on animals. Did you ever wonder about all the unused soap and product that are left behind in guest rooms? Historically they're thrown away as trash. But we participate in the Clean the World program. We collect soaps and shampoos left behind by guests and ship them to Clean the World where they sanitize and process them to distribute these recycled soap to impoverished communities around the world.

RECYCLING

We recycle everything we possibly can! Soda cans, water bottles, wine bottles, newspapers, magazines. We ask guests to either leave them in their room or the sunporch and we'll take it from there.

Water Bottles: To cut down on the usage of plastic water bottles we provide local spring feed water-cooler from MDI Springs. This water is the purist and tastiest you’ll find anywhere. Please feel free to use your own reusable water bottle and fill up for your hike in Acadia National Park.

LAUNDRY

Laundry is a tremendous drain on energy and water resources. We launder our linens in-house, cutting out the harsh chemicals AND inefficient machinery. Also, during your stay, we will not change your towels if they are hung up. We'll assume you'd like to reuse them. Likewise, sheets will be changed every three days, unless you request otherwise. Be sure to walk the carriage road around Eagle Lake, our reservoir.  It will thank you for your efforts.
